This project encompassed both the extension of the Buffalo Bayou Trail East through the built environment of downtown Houston as well as the lighting of the San Jacinto Bridge. As a historic structure that was not only over water, but also a major floodway, the lighting of this bridge provided a variety of design challenges. On top of feasibility and maintenance concerns, the design goals were to accent the arch in blue, picking up the blue lights that define much of the Buffalo Bayou trail, and to highlight the lovely rhythm of columns that support the historic bridge while providing a safe and inviting experience for trail users.
